FEBRUARY PROGRAMS

LIT - Escape the Room  @ MERRICK LIBRARY
Friday, February 3rd 6:30-8:45pm
Team up with friends and use your wits to find the clues, solve the puzzles & riddles and get the key to your freedom!! Race against the clock because time is your enemy. Prizes awarded for the winning team! Snacks will be served. This program is part of LIT, an after-hours space just for teens hosted on a rotating basis by the Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick & North Merrick libraries on the first Friday of each month. Please register in advance online at www.merricklibrary.org.

Chess Club

Do you like to play chess? Want to learn how to play? Our chess club will meet on Tuesdays, February 7th & 21st. New players welcome. Sign up any night the club meets.

CHESS TOURNAMENT 
Sunday, February 12th 1:30-5pm
Join Chess Master Joel Salman as he conducts this lively tournament for chess enthusiasts in grades 2 through 12. Chess sets, boards and clocks will be provided. Check-in between 1:30-1:45pm, round one begins at 1:50pm. Please arrive promptly. Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place winners. Prizes will be given to those players who complete the tournament. All participants must register in advance online or at the Reference Desk.

BANANA BREAD FOR CHARITY
Wednesday, February 22nd 7pm
Join Mrs. Kathy to make delicious banana bread from scratch to donate to those in need. All participants will receive a community service certificate. Open to grades 5 and up. This class may contain food allergens.

TEEN MOVIE: MIDDLE SCHOOL: THE WORST YEARS OF MY LIFE
Thursday, February 23rd 3pm
Watch the movie adaption of James Patterson's middle grade book Middle school, The Worst Years of My Life on the big "screen" at the library!
Rated PG. No registration required.

STEAM Buddies
Monday, February 27th 3:30-4:15pm
Need community service? Join us as we combine science and art to demonstrate the force of gravity in a fun art project for kids ages 4-8. We need teen volunteers for this STEAM-filled activity. All participants will receive a community service certificate. Open to grades 5 and up.

BIRTHDAY CARDS FOR SENIORS
Tuesday, February 28th 3:30pm
Join us to make birthday cards for the elderly in collaboration with DOROT, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to alleviate social isolation and provide concrete services to older adults. Our cards will help bring joy to some of our isolated seniors in the area. Often, this card is the only recognition a senior receives on his or her birthday. All participants will receive a community service certificate. Open to grades 5 and up.
