APRIL PROGRAMS


CHESS CLUB
Children (3rd- 6th Grade) 7-7:55pm
YA & Adults (7th- Adult) 8-8:55pm
Our chess club will meet on Tuesdays, April 10th & 24th. All skill levels welcome. Drop in and learn the ins and outs of chess from Chess Master Joel Salman. Sign up any night the club meets.

BABYSITTING WORKSHOP
Wednesday, April 18th 6:30-8:30pm
Join registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso for a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Participants are asked to bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded to all participants.

PICTURE FRAME ART
Monday, April 30th 3:30-4:30pm
Join us to relieve some stress and color a unique and inspirational coloring page. We will frame it and decorate it for your room, locker or a gift for Mom for Mother’s Day! All materials provided. Open to grades 5 and up. Please register in advance.

TEEN MOVIE
MAZE RUNNER: DEATH CURE
Monday, April 30th 6pm
In the epic finale to The Maze Runner Saga, Thomas leads his group of escaped Gladers on their final and most dangerous mission yet. To save their friends, they must break into the legendary last city, a WCKD controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get the answers to the questions they have been asking since they first arrived in the maze. No registration required. Rated PG-13

COMMUNITY SERVICE
EMERGENCY KITS FOR SHELTER ANIMALS
Monday, April 16th 3:30-5pm
Join Ms. Theresa to create emergency kits for shelter animals. The kit will be filled with the most needed items for cats and dogs in the event of an emergency. We will donate these kits to the local animal shelter. All participants will receive 1.5 hours of community service.

BIRTHDAY CARDS FOR ELDERLY
Tuesday, April 17th 3:30-4:30pm
Join us to make birthday cards for the elderly. Our cards will help bring joy to some of our isolated seniors in the area. Often, this card is the only recognition a senior receives on his or her birthday. Community service will be awarded.

PATIENT PLAY BOOKS
Monday, April 24th  3:30-4:30pm
There are more than 6 million children hospitalized each year. Being in the hospital can be really scary, especially for kids. Join us to create activity books to brighten their stay!

SPRING CLEANING
Saturday, April 28th 2-4pm
It’s that time of year again, and the Young Adult books need to be cleaned. If you need volunteer hours or you just want to pitch in, come help us out for 1 to 3 hours. Grab a friend and come ready to clean!

Registration is required for all the above programs. Register at the Adult Reference Desk or www.northbellmorelibrary.org. Preference will be given to NBL patrons. All community service programs are open to grades 5-12. Community service hours and/or certificates will be awarded  for each program.

LIT - Movie Night
Join us for a private screening of A Wrinkle In Time at the Bellmore Playhouse at 525 Bedford Avenue on Friday, March 9th at 4pm. Enjoy free popcorn and soda. This is a drop off event only. This free event is hosted by the N. Bellmore, Bellmore, Merrick, and North Merrick Libraries. Space is limited. This event is open to grades 5-12. Please register in advance at the Reference desk or online at www.northbellmorelibrary.org.

Teen Movie - Wonder
Tuesday, March 20th 6:30-8:30pm
Bring your tissues. We are showing the film, Wonder, based on the New York Times bestseller. It tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters a mainstream elementary school for the first time.

LifeBooks for Foster Children
Monday, March 12th 3:30pm
Join Ms. Nancy to create special scrapbooks, known as lifebooks, that adoptive and foster children will use for sharing their memories and important moments. All materials will be provided. Community service will be awarded. Open to grades 5+.

Containers for Kids
Monday, March 19th 3:30pm
 Join Ms. Nancy to design and decorate storage containers for young people in need. These personalized containers will be donated to Hope for Youth, a Long-Island based non-profit organization that assists young people in foster care or experiencing family crisis. All materials provided. Community service will be awarded. Open to grades 5+.

Shark Tank
Thursday, March 22nd, 6:30-8:30pm
Break into groups and come up with an original and creative business idea. You will learn how to make a business plan while sharpening your presentation and communication skills. Prizes will be given to winners and snacks will be provided! 2 hours of community service will be awarded.

Potholders for meals on Wheels
Monday, March 26th 3:30pm
Join Mrs. T to thoughtfully decorate potholders and lunch bags for Meals on Wheels recipients. It will be a lovely extra and hopefully spread a little sunshine. All participants will receive a community service. Open to grades 5+
