DECEMBER PROGRAMS

Cupcake Decorating
Monday, December 19th, 7-8pm
Join us to decorate holiday cupcakes using frosting, cookies, and candies. All food coloring for frosting is Organic with no artificial colors or flavors. Use your creativity to decorate a delicious treat for yourself or a friend!

No School and Don’t Know What to Do? Check out all of our fun activities we have planned at the Library! Programs are open to North Bellmore patrons in grades 6—12. Make sure to sign up online to hold your place because space is limited!

Teen Movie: Monte Carlo
Tuesday, December 27th 6pm
Join us for a viewing of Monte Carlo. Three young women vacationing in Paris find themselves whisked away to Monte Carlo after one of the girls is mistaken for a British heiress.

Teen Taco Night
Wednesday, December 28th 5:30-7pm
Miss Kathy will teach us how to season chicken and prepare a delicious and nutritious taco. There will be a choice of soft and hard tacos, chicken, beans and lots of toppings!

Tie-Dyeing Teens
Thursday, December 29th 7-8pm
Turn a plain t-shirt into a colorful work of art and have fun doing it! Try your hand at the art of tie-dye. Please bring a white t-shirt to tie-dye.

Waffles & Ice Cream
Friday, December 30th 2-3pm
End your vacation with a delicious treat! We will measure, mix and make waffles from scratch and then bake them on a waffle maker. We will also prepare a sundae on top of the waffle, which will include ice cream, whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate syrup and bananas. Yum!

Blankets of Gratitude
Thursday, November 10th, 7-8pm
This winter, thousands of veterans will spend time in a VA hospital or facility, away from the warmth of home, family and friends. We want them to know that they are remembered, that we are thinking of them, and that we are grateful for their past service. Join us to tie together warm fleecy material to make blankets of gratitude. All participants will receive an hour of community service.

Book Buddies
Teens and children become “buddies” by sharing books and a positive library experience. Children get a chance to practice their reading skills and/or be read to while teens gain volunteer experience, community service credit and a chance to make a difference in a child’s life. Book Buddies will meet on: Mondays, November 7th, 21st, 28th & December 5th, 12th, 19th from 3:30 – 4:15pm

WELCOME BACK STUDENTS

We are here to help with any school projects or research papers. Visit us at our home page http://www.northbellmorelibrary.org/ for access to many kinds of databases with valuable information and support for your schoolwork, available in the library and from your home computer. Students who have not yet read the required summer reading book can still come in to find the books in the Young Adult section. If the book is not on the shelves, a Librarian can request that a copy be brought into the library.

FUN FONDUE

S.A.T. PREP CLASS

This is a six-week math and verbal course to help high school sophomores and juniors prepare for the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Classes will be held Thursdays: September 15th and 22nd, October 6th, 13th, and 20th and November 3rd from 6:45-8:45 P.M. An $80 check, payable to Melissa Bielawski, is required at registration. Students must purchase McGraw Hill's SAT, 2012 edition, by Black & Anestis (ISBN 978-0071764094). Please be sure to bring the book and a calculator to each class. Space is limited!

BABYSITTING WORKSHOP
Thursday, June 16th, 7-9PM
Teenagers are invited to learn the basics of caring for infants and small children along with first aid techniques. Registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso will present a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Participants are asked to bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded.

Join us to kick-off the summer right at an I Love New York pizza party on July 7th from 5:30-7PM! Sign up for the teen summer reading club while eating pizza, playing bingo and other fun games, making crafts, and entering raffles to win more prizes! All students entering 6th through 12th grade in September can join NBL's summer reading club starting July 7th. As a member you will read books, write revews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle. When you sign up for the summer reading club you will get a chance to guess how many candies are in the jar at the library. The closest guess wins the whole jar!

Book Buddies
Teens and children become "buddies" by sharing books and a positive library experience. Make a Blanket

SAT Prep Course
Learn tricks and techniques for taking the SATs. Enhance your math and verbal skills while learning test taking strategies that can help you get a higher score. This 6 weeks course will be held from 6:45-8:45 on the following Thursday evenings: March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 31st and April 14th & 21st. The fee is $80.00 per student. LICM TEEN PAINTING WORKSHOP

The Long Island Children's Museum will present this workshop to explore the art and life of Willem de Kooning, one of the famous painters of abstract expressionist movement. You will create your own painting using large canvases, paint, tracing vellum and a variety of other materials. Don't miss out - space is limited! Sign up at the Adult Reference Desk.

Join us for a viewing of Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. The movie is based on author Kathryn Lasky's popular series of books about a group of kidnapped owlets who take flight to save their kingdom from an ancient evil by locating the legendary Guardians of Ga'Hoole.

SAT PREP COURSE
Sign-up begins February 1st.
Learn tricks and techniques for taking the SATs. Enhance your math and verbal skills while learning test taking strategies that can help you get a higher score. This 6 week course will be held from 6:45-8:45PM on the following Thursday evenings: March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 31st, and April 14th & 21st. The fee is $80.00 per student. Please make checks payable to Melissa Bielawski. Students must purchase McGraw Hill's SAT I Book, 2011 Edition (ISBN 978-0071740944) for class.
