COMMUNITY SERVICE 
Design A Quilt Square
Tuesday, December 10th 7-8:00pm
We will be designing quilt squares that will be used to create a warm quilt that will be donated to a local shelter. Please register in advance. Community service credit will be awarded.

Create a Snowbuddy Worskhop
Monday, December 16th 3:30-4:30pm
Be a helper to children in grades k-2 as they hand-stuff and name their newest buddy- a snowman! Please register in advance. Community service credit will be awarded.

Hats for the Homeless
Thursday, December 19th 7-8:00pm
Join us to craft fleece hats for a local homeless shelter. No sewing required. Please register in advance Community service credit will be awarded.  Space is limited.

LIT: Star Wars Movie event
Friday, January 3rd 4:00pm
We invite you to the Bellmore Playhouse for a viewing of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Join us to watch as the surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more as Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron's journey continues. Enjoy free popcorn and soda. This is a drop off event only for teens in grades 6 through 12.

LIT:THANKSGIVING CUPCAKE WARS
Friday, November 15th 7-8:30pm
Have fun decorating cupcakes and battling to see who has the best Thanksgiving theme cupcake. Please register with the North Merrick Library at www.northmerricklibrary.org. This is a drop off event only. Space is limited. Open to grades 6 - 12.Registration is required.

Calling all crafters! Students in grades 6-12 can volunteer to help a child, Kindergarten through 2nd grade, with a variety of craft projects. Please register in advance.
Community service credit will be awarded.

cookie kits for charity
Thursday, November 14th 7-8:30pm
Spread some joy by preparing and decorating cookie kits in jars for a local food pantry. This activity requires handing dry food ingredients. Those with food allergies should visit the reference desk for a list of ingredients. Please register in advance. Community service credit will be awarded.


BIRTHDAY BOXES
Tuesday, November 27th 3:30pm
Our Library hosted a Birthday Party Supply drive in collaboration with Birthday Wishes, a local charity with a mission to provide birthday parties to children experiencing homelessness. Now we need help to assemble and decorate the boxes for delivery. Join us to help make a child’s birthday special. You can also bring any
donations with you to the event. The boxes will include: new, unopened birthday supplies such as themed plastic tablecloths, birthday banners, party hats, blowers, balloons, disposable cake pans, juice boxes, birthday plates and napkins and unwrapped toys. Please register in advance. Community service credit will be awarded.

LIT Haunted Mini-Golf
Friday, October 20th 6:30-8:30pm
Looking for something to do that’s fun and free on a Friday? Fear not! The Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick, and North Merrick Libraries have joined forces to provide just that. LIT features different activities, events, as well as spaces to hang out, munch on snacks, and get together with friends. Join us for a fun evening of mini golf on a haunted course after hours at the Bellmore Library. Supplies and refreshments will be provided.

Babysitting Workshop
Tuesday, October 15th  6:30-8:30pm
Join registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso for a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Participants are asked to bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded to all participants. Please register in advance.

Thank You Cards for Veterans
Monday, October 28th 3:30-4:30pm
Join us to make cards to thank our Veterans for their service. Our cards and letters will be included in Operation Gratitude care packages sent to Military Veterans all across the country. All materials will be provided. Community service will be awarded. Open to grades 5+.

SEPTEMBER PROGRAMS

Welcome Back Students!
We hope everyone had a great summer! And a big thank you to all the amazing participants of our Teen SRC! We are now ready for the school year to begin! Our new Library is open!! More importantly...we now have a TEEN ROOM!! Come in and check out our new space dedicated to YOU! We have new computers, spaces for group study, places to plug-in, or grab a book from the YA collection and un-plug on a comfy chair. And don’t forget...we are here to help with any school projects or research! We have access to many databases with valuable information and support for your schoolwork, available in the library and from home. We also have a lot of fun programs and events planned for this school year.

Want to learn how to turn your trash into something useful? Join Ms. Hannah to learn about upcycling and what it does for our environment. Open to grades 2-6. Please register in advance.

TEEN SUMMER READING CLUB
Our old building may be closed for renovation, but were still rocking! Visit us at our temporary location to sign up for the Teen SRC! All North Bellmore students entering grades 6 through 12 in September can join NBL’s summer reading club.  As a member you will read books, write reviews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle. When you sign up for the SRC you will get a bag of goodies and a chance to guess how many candies are in the jar at the Reference Desk. The closest guess wins the whole jar!

Love science and all kinds of science experiments? Bubbles, chemistry, soundwaves, magnetism, air pressure and more! Come aboard a fantastic silver school bus for a hands-on science experience! Drop-in any time from 4-7pm, no need to register. The bus will be parked in the library parking lot.

DUCT TAPE CRAFTS

Join us for some fun with duct tape! We will create and explore all the different things we can make. We will have lots of fun colors and patterns for you to choose from.

Teen summer reading Club 2019

SRP Kick-Off Party on Monday, June 17th 4pm

Join us on Monday, June 17th at 4pm to explore A Universe of Stories at our SRC kick-off Movie Event. We will get a private viewing of Men In Black: International at the JJ Bellmore Playhouse located at 525 Bedford Avenue in Bellmore! Popcorn and drinks are included. Please register in advance online or at the Reference Desk. All students entering 6th through 12th grade in September can join NBL’s summer reading club from June 17th to August 9th. As a member you will read books, write reviews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle.
When you sign up for the summer reading club you will automatically be entered in our raffle, but you will also get chance to guess how many candies are in the jar. The closest guess wins the whole jar!

Merrick Libraries, LIT will feature different activities, events, as well as spaces to hang out, munch on snacks, and get together with friends. This month we invite you to the Bellmore Playhouse located at 525 Bedford Avenue on Friday, May 3rd at 4pm for a viewing of Avengers: The End Game. Space is limited. Stop in the library anytime between 10am and 11:30am to make birthday cards for the elderly. Our cards will help bring joy to some of our isolated seniors in the area. Often, this card is the only recognition a senior receives on his or her birthday. Open to grades 5 and up. Community service will be awarded. No registration required.

Kindness Rocks
Saturday, April 27th 10am-1pm
Stop in the library anytime between 10am and 1pm to paint a kindness rock. Kindness rocks are stones that have been painted with an uplifting image or message. They are frequently placed in inconspicuous public places for passers-by to find and be inspired by. You don't have to be a good artist to paint a kindness rock. You just need a good heart! 

Legos of Love
Tuesday, April 30th 3:30-4:30pm
Thanks to the many donations of Legos received from our community, we are ready to create Lego bags of love! Join us to clean, organize, sort, assemble and decorate small bags of Legos to be distributed to homeless shelters.

Join us to create hand crafted heart patches for children living in shelters. These patches will be used as nametags on the superhero capes donated by , Enchanted Makeovers. No sewing required. This program will take place at Grace Lutheran on 1294 Bellmore Avenue. 

Birthday Boxes
Wednesday, March 27th 3:30pm
We have received many wonderful and generous donations of teen items, and now it’s time to pack them up! Join us to decorate and pack our teen birthday boxes for the local charity, Birthday Wishes. The Birthday-in-a-Box (BIAB) Program serves homeless children in domestic violence shelters, scattered sites, motels, and other locations.This program will take place at Grace Lutheran on 1294 Bellmore Avenue.

All of the above community service programs are open to grades 5 and up. Community service will be awarded to all participants. Please register in advance online or at the Adult Reference Desk.

LIT invites current 6th-12th graders to an after-hours space just for teens. Hosted monthly on a rotating basis by the N. Bellmore, Bellmore, Merrick, and N. Merrick Libraries. This month we invite you to help the Avengers stop Thanos from collecting all six infinity stones and decimating half of the universe. This a free program open to those in grades 6 through 12. Fleece Hats for the Homeless

Help make winter a little warmer for homeless children and adults by crafting fleece hats. No sewing skills required! Hats will be donated to a local shelter. 

Life Books for Foster Children

Join us to create special scrapbooks, known as life books, that adoptive and foster children will use for sharing their memories and important moments. All materials will be provided and books will be donated to Hope for Life, a local charity serving foster children and their families.

PILLOWS FOR CATS
Tuesday,  February 26th   7pm
Craft a pillow to comfort our furry friends at Second Chance Animal Rescue while they wait to be adopted.
