JUNE PROGRAMS

Libraries Ignite Teens
We invite current 6th-12th graders
to kick-off the weekend right, with an after-hours space just for teens. This month we’re heading to North Merrick Library for a LIT-Fest! Hang out with Aimee Friedman, author of Two Summers and our host, YA author extraordinaire, jen Calonita, on Friday, June 3rd for games, crafts, activities, and snacks. Babysitting Workshop
Monday, June 20th 6:30-8:30pm
Do you plan on babysitting this summer? Join registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso for a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Participants are asked to bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded to all participants.

Tie-Dye Apron for Dad
Thursday, June 9th 7-8pm
Can’t think of anything good to get for dear old dad for Father’s Day? Join Mrs. Kathy to create a unique tie-dye apron using Sharpie markers. All materials provided. Grades 5+

Our chess club will meet on Tuesdays, June 7th & 21st. New players always welcome! All skill levels welcome Sign up any night the club meets.

Book Swap
Tuesday, June 28th 6:30-7:30pm
Don’t know what to do with your old books? Looking for something new to read? Bring up to 5 of your gently used books to swap with other teens! Each book you bring earns a ticket for one swap. Snacks will be served!

Teen Summer Reading Club 2016
SRP Kick-Off Party on Tuesday, July 5th 4:30pm
Join us to kick-off the summer right at our SRC pizza party on July 5th at 4:30pm!  Sign up for the teen summer reading club while eating pizza, playing Bingo and other fun games, making crafts, and entering raffles to win more prizes!  All students entering 6th through 12th grade in September can join NBL’s summer reading club from July 5th to August 12th. As a member you will read books, write reviews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle. When you sign up for the summer reading club you will get a chance to guess how many candies are in the jar at the library. The closest guess wins the whole jar!

Libraries Ignite Teens
We invite current 6th-12th graders to kick-off the weekend in a new way, with an after-hours space just for teens. Hosted on a rotating basis by the N. Bellmore, Bellmore, Merrick, and North Merrick libraries on the first Friday of each month, LIT will feature different activities, events, as well as a space to hang out, munch on snacks, and get together with friends. It’s our turn to host on Friday, May 6th!

TEEN MOVIE: The 5th Wave

Join us for a viewing of this sci-fi thriller based on the YA novel by Richard Yancey. Four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth in ruin. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. SPRING DONUTS
Tuesday, May 17th 7-8pm
Join Mrs. Kathy and learn how to make delicious mini donuts from scratch. We will follow a recipe and measure and mix the ingredients. We are using cutting edge technology to create our Spring treats. We will add glaze and decorate. You will bring your donuts home for yourself or to share! Open to grades 5+.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Dog Toys for Charity
Monday, May 23rd 3:30pm-4:30pm
Dogs that don't get toys to chew on can be less playful, which makes them less likely to be adopted. Everyone loves a playful pooch! We will make DIY doggie toys for shelters and encourage potential adopters to give those pups a new home. Please bring an old t-shirt with you! Grades 5+.

Money Jars for Charity
Monday, May 23rd 7-8pm
Join Mrs. Kathy to create a loose change jar using tissue paper, paint, markers, buttons, ribbons, and more!. We will wrap them up and donate them to children at Ronald McDonald House. A community service certificate will be given to all participants! Grades 5+
