NOVEMBER PROGRAMS


LIT:THANKSGIVING CUPCAKE WARS
Friday, November 15th 7-8:30pm
Have fun decorating cupcakes and battling to see who has the best Thanksgiving theme cupcake. Please register with the North Merrick Library at www.northmerricklibrary.org. This is a drop off event only. Space is limited. Open to grades 6 - 12.Registration is required.

LIT Extreme Gingerbread Challenge
Friday, December 6th 7-8:30pm
We provide the supplies, you provide the design! Be creative and crazy and come build an EXTREME Gingerbread House! We will work in teams, and the winning team will receive a grand prize! To make sure we have enough goodies, please register in advance at www.northbellmorelibrary.org or at the Adult Reference Desk. This program is free and open to teens in grades 6 through 12. 

CHESS CLUB
Tuesday, November 12th & 26th 7-8:30pm
Do you like to play chess? Want to learn how to play? Join the NBL Chess Club! All skill levels welcome. Chess boards will be provided. Open to grades 3 through adult. Please register in advance.

CRAFT BUDDIES
Mondays, November 18th, 25th  and December 2nd 3:30-4:30pm
Calling all crafters! Students in grades 6-12 can volunteer to help a child, Kindergarten through 2nd grade, with a variety of craft projects. Please register in advance.
Community service credit will be awarded.

cookie kits for charity
Thursday, November 14th 7-8:30pm
Spread some joy by preparing and decorating cookie kits in jars for a local food pantry. This activity requires handing dry food ingredients. Those with food allergies should visit the reference desk for a list of ingredients. Please register in advance. Community service credit will be awarded.


BIRTHDAY BOXES
Tuesday, November 27th 3:30pm
Our Library hosted a Birthday Party Supply drive in collaboration with Birthday Wishes, a local charity with a mission to provide birthday parties to children experiencing homelessness. Now we need help to assemble and decorate the boxes for delivery. Join us to help make a child’s birthday special. You can also bring any
donations with you to the event. The boxes will include: new, unopened birthday supplies such as themed plastic tablecloths, birthday banners, party hats, blowers, balloons, disposable cake pans, juice boxes, birthday plates and napkins and unwrapped toys. Please register in advance. Community service credit will be awarded.

Are you a senior applying to colleges this fall? Do you need to jumpstart your application essays? This workshop will discuss what colleges are looking for and how best to answer those application essay questions. You will participate in stress-free brainstorming exercises and review strategies to help you write a terrific essay that best represents you!

Learn insider tips to maximize your financial aid from Long Island’s leading financial aid experts with over 35 years of experience. We describe the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE® application, New York State’s unique financial aid program-TAP, and federal grant and loan programs. LIT Haunted Mini-Golf
Friday, October 20th 6:30-8:30pm
Looking for something to do that’s fun and free on a Friday? Fear not! The Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick, and North Merrick Libraries have joined forces to provide just that. LIT features different activities, events, as well as spaces to hang out, munch on snacks, and get together with friends. Join us for a fun evening of mini golf on a haunted course after hours at the Bellmore Library. Supplies and refreshments will be provided.

Babysitting Workshop
Tuesday, October 15th  6:30-8:30pm
Join registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso for a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Participants are asked to bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded to all participants. Please register in advance.


COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS
LIFEBOOKS FOR FOSTER CHILDREN
Tuesday, October 22nd 7-8:30pm
Join Ms. Nancy to create special scrapbooks, known as lifebooks, that adoptive and foster children will use for sharing their memories and important moments. All materials will be provided. Community service will be awarded. Open to grades 5+.

Thank You Cards for Veterans
Monday, October 28th 3:30-4:30pm
Join us to make cards to thank our Veterans for their service. Our cards and letters will be included in Operation Gratitude care packages sent to Military Veterans all across the country. All materials will be provided. Community service will be awarded. Open to grades 5+.

SEPTEMBER PROGRAMS

Welcome Back Students!
We hope everyone had a great summer! And a big thank you to all the amazing participants of our Teen SRC! We are now ready for the school year to begin! Our new Library is open!! More importantly...we now have a TEEN ROOM!! Come in and check out our new space dedicated to YOU! We have new computers, spaces for group study, places to plug-in, or grab a book from the YA collection and un-plug on a comfy chair. And don’t forget...we are here to help with any school projects or research! We have access to many databases with valuable information and support for your schoolwork, available in the library and from home. We also have a lot of fun programs and events planned for this school year.


Upcycling Program

Want to learn how to turn your trash into something useful? Join Ms. Hannah to learn about upcycling and what it does for our environment. Open to grades 2-6. Please register in advance.

TEEN SUMMER READING CLUB
Our old building may be closed for renovation, but were still rocking! Visit us at our temporary location to sign up for the Teen SRC! All North Bellmore students entering grades 6 through 12 in September can join NBL’s summer reading club.  As a member you will read books, write reviews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle. When you sign up for the SRC you will get a bag of goodies and a chance to guess how many candies are in the jar at the Reference Desk. The closest guess wins the whole jar!

Love science and all kinds of science experiments? Bubbles, chemistry, soundwaves, magnetism, air pressure and more! Come aboard a fantastic silver school bus for a hands-on science experience! Drop-in any time from 4-7pm, no need to register. The bus will be parked in the library parking lot.

DUCT TAPE CRAFTS
Thursday, August 8th 7-8pm
Join us for some fun with duct tape! We will create and explore all the different things we can make. We will have lots of fun colors and patterns for you to choose from.

Young Adult programs are open to all N. Hello June....


Teen summer reading Club 2019

SRP Kick-Off Party on Monday, June 17th 4pm

Join us on Monday, June 17th at 4pm to explore A Universe of Stories at our SRC kick-off Movie Event. We will get a private viewing of Men In Black: International at the JJ Bellmore Playhouse located at 525 Bedford Avenue in Bellmore! Popcorn and drinks are included. Please register in advance online or at the Reference Desk. All students entering 6th through 12th grade in September can join NBL’s summer reading club from June 17th to August 9th. As a member you will read books, write reviews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle.
When you sign up for the summer reading club you will automatically be entered in our raffle, but you will also get chance to guess how many candies are in the jar. The closest guess wins the whole jar!
