Chess Club

Are you interested in the game of chess? Come to the library and play! All skill levels welcome. Chess boards will be provided. No registration required. Our chess club will meet on Tuesdays, November 7th & 21st.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Dog Beds for Charity
Wednesday, November 8th 7-8pm
Join us for a good doggie cause. Mrs. Kathy is going to help us create soft and cozy dog beds to donate to a local animal shelter.  

Craft Buddies
Mondays, November 13th & 20th 3:30-4:15pm
Calling all crafters! Volunteer to help a child create fun fall craft projects! 

Humane Society
Monday, November 13th 7pm
Do you care about animals? Learn how they can benefit from the actions you take and the choices you make everyday. A representative from the HEART (Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers) will join us to discuss ways you can get involved in your own community.

Dog Treats for Charity
Tuesday, November 14th 7-8pm
Unfortunately we can't bring home every dog that lives in the shelter, but we can brighten their day with tasty treats!  Join Mrs. Kathy to make dog biscuits to be donated to a local animal shelter. (Peanut butter products used)

Caturday Crafts
Tuesday, November 28th 7-8:30pm
Let's not forget about those adorable shelter cats! We will create crafts which will promote their adoption. We will also make toys for cats to keep them busy while they wait for a fur-ever home.

LIT Movie Event: Wonder
LIT invites current 5th-12th graders to an after-hours space just for teens. Hosted monthly on a rotating basis by the N. Bellmore, Bellmore, Merrick, and N. Merrick Libraries. This month we invite you to the Bellmore Playhouse on Wednesday, November 29th at 4pm for a viewing of Wonder, a film based on the NY Times bestseller by R.J. Palacio. Enjoy free popcorn and soda. This is a drop off event only. Space is limited. Registration begins November 1st.

Coming in December: EXTREME GINGERBREAD CHALLENGE
Friday, December 1st 6:30pm
We provide the supplies, you provide the design! Be creative and crazy and come build an EXTREME Gingerbread House! We will work in teams, and the winning team will receive a grand prize! LIT: SPOOKY EDITION
Friday, October 13th 7pm @ North Merrick Library
Join us on Friday the 13th for a fun and fearful night! Bugs, ice, and other gross games. Do you have what it takes?  Come take the Fear Factor Challenge at the library! We will also be joined by our special guests, YA authors, Jen Calonita & Kieran Scott, to discuss their latest books. Snacks will be served. You don’t want to miss this! This event will take place at the North Merrick Library. Please register in advance at www.nmerricklibrary.org. And stay tuned for a Wonder Movie Event in November!

TEEN Craft TIME

Want to spruce up your boring locker? Or need to add a little flare to your bedroom? Join us to make a clothespin wheel to display your notes, photos or anything you want. All materials provided.

community service programs
Pumpkin Loaf to Donate
Wednesday, October 11th 7pm
Join Mrs. Kathy to make delicious pumpkin loaf from scratch to donate to those in need. We will measure and mix the ingredients to make the loaves. Mrs. Kathy will bake the loaves and bring them to a local shelter.

Kindness Rocks
Monday, October 16th 3:30pm
Paint a kindness rock at the library! Kindness rocks are stones that have been painted with an uplifting image or message. They are frequently placed in inconspicuous public places for passers-by to find and be inspired by. You don't have to be a good artist to paint a kindness rock. You just need a good heart!  

Thank You Veterans!
Monday, October 23rd 3:30pm
Join us to honor and thank our Veterans for their service. We will collaborate with Operation Gratitude, and their mission to express appreciation for the sacrifices of our Military. Our cards and letters will be included in the care packages sent to Military Veterans all across the country.

All of the above programs are open to grades 5 and up. Community service will be awarded to all participants. Please register in advance online or at the Adult Reference Desk.
