Join us in baking for a good cause.  We will learn to make homemade chocolate chip cookies from scratch, and Mrs. Kathy will bake half of them and bring them to the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen in Hempstead.  We will bring the other half home to enjoy with family and friends.

Spa Party
Monday, December 23rd, 7-8:30pm
$5 Material Fee
Mrs. Kathy will demonstrate how to make a body or foot scrub using different scented essential oils.  Participants will then pick a scent and make their own scrub in a decorated jar!  Great as a gift or to keep for yourself!   Register in advance - Space is limited!

Welcome Back Students!
We are here to help with any school projects or research papers.  Visit us at our home page www.northbellmorelibrary.org for access to many kinds of databases with valuable information and support for your schoolwork, available in the library and from your home computer.  Students who have not yet read the required summer reading book, can still come in to find the books in the Young Adult section.  If the book is not on the shelf, a Librarian can request that a copy be brought into the library.

S.A.T. Prep Class
This is a six-week math and verbal course to help high school sophomores and juniors prepare for the Scholastic Aptitude Test.  Classes will be held Thursdays: September 12th, 19th, 26th and October 3rd, 10th, and 17th from 6:45-8:45pm.  An $80 check, payable to Melissa Bielawski, is required at registration.  Students must purchase McGraw-Hill's SAT I Book, 2014 Edition for class.  We have limited copies for sale at the Reference Desk for $5.  Please sign up in advance at the Adult Reference Desk.  Space is limited!

Banned Books Week, September 22-28, 2013 
Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read.  It highlights the value of free and open access to information and brings together the entire book community - librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types - in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.  In honor of Banned Books Week we will show three movies based on popular banned books:

Hunger Games, Rated PG-13, 142 minutes
A viewing of the Hunger Games will take place on Tuesday, September 24th at 4:30pm.


Twilight, Rated PG-13, 122 minutes
A viewing of Twilight will be held on Wednesday, September 25th at 4:30pm.

Join us to kick-off the summer right at our annual summer pizza party on July 9th at 4pm! Sign up for the teen summer reading club while eating pizza, playing fun games, making crafts, and entering raffles to win more prizes!  All students entering 6th through 12th grade in September can join NBL’s summer reading club starting July 9th.  As a member you will read books, write reviews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle. When you sign up for the summer reading club you will get a chance to guess how many candies are in the jar at the library. The closest guess wins the whole jar!

VIDEO GAME DESIGN

In this two session hands-on class, you will get an introduction to the basics of video game creation.  Learn how to design a video game and write a program.  You will construct rooms and doorways, add a player, objects, textures, colors, lighting and more.  We will compile the finished program and learn how to make changes and correct errors. MANGA WORKSHOP
Saturdays, August 3rd, 10th & 17th 1-3pm
Join Anime artists Kelly Gordon and Jen Scrimenti for this hands-on three week extreme drawing workshop. They will look at your drawings, give feedback, help you polish your ideas of storyline, and give tips and tools you will need to get to that next level. All materials provided. Fruit Smoothie Social
Friday, June 28th 2:30pm
Mrs. Kathy will teach us to create a variety of smoothies using many different fresh fruits (oranges, kiwis, strawberries, berries, bananas and seasonal fruits). Orange juice will be made fresh by the attendees with a citrus press juicer and then used in smoothies. As always this is a hands on class! Everyone will leave with a smoothie recipe and a full belly. Please register in advance online or at the Adult Reference Desk. SAT Prep Course
Learn tricks and techniques for taking the SATs. Enhance your math and verbal skills while learning test taking strategies that can help you get a higher score. This 6 week course will be held from 6:45-8:45pm on the following Thursday evenings: March 7th, 14th, 21st and April 4th, 18th & 25th.  The fee is $80.00 per student. Babysitting Workshop

Teens are invited to learn the basics of  caring for infants and small children along with first aid techniques. Registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso will present a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Please bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded.

Bookend Decorating

Use your crafty skills to beautify the Young Adult Department. We will decorate our boring old

SAT Prep Class

Learn tricks and techniques for taking the SATs. Enhance your math and verbal skills while learning test taking strategies that can help you get a higher score. This 6 week course will be held from 6:45-8:45pm on the following Thursday evenings: March 7th, 14th, 21st and April 4th, 18th & 25th. An $80 check, payable to Melissa Bielawski, is required at registration. Students must purchase McGraw-Hill’s SAT I Book, 2013 Edition for class.  We have limited copies for sale at the Reference Desk for $5.  Please sign up in advance at the Adult Reference Desk.
