Book Buddies
Teens and children become “buddies” by sharing books and a positive library experience. Children get a chance to practice their reading skills and/or be read to while teens gain community service credit and a chance to make a difference in a child’s life. Space is limited-please sign up online. Book Buddies will meet on: Thursdays, March 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th from 3:30-4:15pm.
Author Visit: Meet Matt Blackstone,
author of A Scary Scene in a Scary Movie
Tuesday, March 6th 7-8pm
We welcome Young Adult author, Matt Blackstone, who will talk about his book, an utterly original, hilarious, realistic tale of overcoming high school stress and anxiety. There will be a reading from his book, A Scary Scene in a Scary Movie, a Q&A period, a meet and greet, a book raffle and signing. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on the night of the event.
SAT Prep Course
Learn tricks and techniques for taking the SATs. Enhance your math and verbal skills while learning test taking strategies that can help you get a higher score. This 6 week course will be held from 6:45-8:45pm on the following Thursday evenings: March 1st, 8th, 15th, 29th and April 12th & 19th. The fee is $80.00 per student. Please make checks payable to Melissa Bielawski. Students must purchase McGraw-Hill’s SAT I Book, which is available for purchase at the Library for $5. Sign-up at the Adult Reference Desk.
Irish Soda Bread Workshop

Join us to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by learning how to make a simple, delicious, traditional Irish Soda Bread. Each participant will make their own and bring it home to bake. Please sign up in advance online.
Hunger Games Party

Have you read The Hunger Games trilogy? Think you could survive right alongside the likes of Katniss or Peeta? Come test your know how at the NBL Hunger Games Party! We’ll have Hunger Games Trivia, learn a few skills and test the skills you can bring to the arena with a cornucopia of skills tests to see if you too could survive in the arena. Even if you haven’t finished the series completely, or if you’re curious to see what all the fuss is about, join us for this fun and challenging vent. Cookies for Charity

Join us in baking for a good cause. We will learn to make homemade chocolate chip cookies from scratch, and Miss Kathy will bake them and bring them to the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen in Hempstead.

The Young Adult Department is hosting a Harry Potter Day for children in grades 2-5 on Friday, February 24th from 3-6pm. We need volunteers to run the various stations and help with arts & crafts. Miss Kathy is back to teach us how to make delicious s’mores pizza. We will make the dough from scratch, add graham crackers, marsh mallow, and chocolate toppings. Participants will bake their creation at home.

Join us for a viewing of Breaking Dawn Part I. In the highly anticipated fourth installment of The Twilight Saga, a marriage, honeymoon and the birth of a child bring unforeseen and shocking developments for Bella and Edward and those they love.

Teenagers are invited to learn the basics of caring for infants and small children along with first aid techniques. Registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso will present a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Participants are asked to bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded.
