SEPTEMBER PROGRAMS

WELCOME BACK STUDENTS

We are here to help with any school projects or research papers. Visit us at our home page http://www.northbellmorelibrary.org/ for access to many kinds of databases with valuable information and support for your schoolwork, available in the library and from your home computer. Students who have not yet read the required summer reading book can still come in to find the books in the Young Adult section. If the book is not on the shelves, a Librarian can request that a copy be brought into the library.

FUN FONDUE
Wednesday, September 14th, 7-8PM

Does it get any better than cool strawberries dipped into a pool of rich, creamy chocolate? Join us for fun fondue where we will have fruit dipped in your choice of milk chocolate, dark chocolate or white chocolate. Please sign up in advance - space is limited!

TEEN MOVIE
Friday, September 16th, 3:30PM

Join us for a showing of the hilarious movie, Prom. A group of teenagers find their lives intersecting and their futures taking shape as they prepare for the most pivotal event of their high school careers.

Wii TUESDAYS
Tuesday, September 27th, 7PM

Join us for the start of our monthly game nights. Teens are invited to play/watch others play Karaoke Revolution, Wii Rock Band, Just Dance, and other Wii games. Refreshments will be served.

S.A.T. PREP CLASS

This is a six-week math and verbal course to help high school sophomores and juniors prepare for the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Classes will be held Thursdays: September 15th and 22nd, October 6th, 13th, and 20th and November 3rd from 6:45-8:45 P.M. An $80 check, payable to Melissa Bielawski, is required at registration. Students must purchase McGraw Hill's SAT, 2012 edition, by Black & Anestis (ISBN 978-0071764094). Please be sure to bring the book and a calculator to each class. Space is limited!

LEGO CLUB
Tuesday, September 13th, 3:30-4:30PM

Join us to practice your crazy Lego building skills. We provide the Legos - you create the masterpiece. Open to grades 4-9. No registration required.

MANGA CLUB
Friday, September 9th, 3:30-5PM

Join us after school to read and discuss manga. We will chat about storylines, characters and artwork. No registration required.

Yoga is an exercise that explores and integrates the mind, body, and breath. You will leran how to move gracefully, breathe smoothly, sustain your focus, develop strength, flexibility, balance, mental clarity and emotional stability.

This summer our favorite teeen author, Jen Calonita (Secrets of My Hollywood Life series), invites you and your friends to join our super fun Beach Bag Book Club. At each event, we will get to discuss the books with not only Ms. Calonita, but with the author of the book itself. Our August book will be All the Things You Are by Courtney Sheinmel. Everyone that signs up for the BBB Club gets a beach bag to tote all of your favorite books around in the summer. Please sign up in advance. Our club will meet at the Merrick Library Wing on merrick Avenue in Merrick.

TEEN ACTORS WORKSHOP

Join us for a fun workshop where theatre games and various techniques of your performance will be used to teach you how to express yourself. Using your own experiences, the group will learn to cultivate a scene together. There will be a performance on the last day of class.

BIRDHOUSE CRAFT

Join Miss Kathy to paint, color, and stencil a wooden birdhouse. Bird food supplied. $6 materials fee.

SUMMER READING CLUB FINALE PARTY

Learn to draw your favorite comic book or manga chracter with artist, Peter Simeti. All you need is a picture of the character you want to draw. Paper, pencils, pens and coloring pencils will be provided.

GLAM NAILS


Tuesday, July 26th, 7-8:30PM

Make your nails look fabulous with help from Miss Kathy, a licensed nail technician. Learn how to manicure, decorate and take care of your nails. Every participant goes home with their own nail care kit.
$5 materials fee.


PIZZA PROGRAM

Who doesn't love pizza? Now you can learn how to make your own from scratch. Make the dough, add the sauce and cheese. Make and bake at home.

Join Miss Kathy to create a personalized scrapbook to show Dad how much you really care. Bring photos you would like to use. A $4.00 materials fee will be collected at registration. Open to grades 5-12.

PEDICURE PARTY
Monday, June 27th, 7-8:30PM
It's summertime, and that means one thing...flip-flops and sandals! Get ready to show off your toes! Learn how to pedicure and decorate your toenails. Everyone will receive their very own pedicure kit to keep. A $7.00 materials fee will be collected at registration.

BABYSITTING WORKSHOP
Thursday, June 16th, 7-9PM
Teenagers are invited to learn the basics of caring for infants and small children along with first aid techniques. Registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso will present a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Participants are asked to bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded.

TEEN SUMMER READING CLUB 2011 - "YOU ARE HERE"
July 7th - August 17th
Join us to kick-off the summer right at an I Love New York pizza party on July 7th from 5:30-7PM! Sign up for the teen summer reading club while eating pizza, playing bingo and other fun games, making crafts, and entering raffles to win more prizes! All students entering 6th through 12th grade in September can join NBL's summer reading club starting July 7th. As a member you will read books, write revews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly raffle. When you sign up for the summer reading club you will get a chance to guess how many candies are in the jar at the library. The closest guess wins the whole jar!
