OCTOBER/NOVEMBER PROGRAMS

Book Buddies Are you a teen who likes reading to young children? If so, sign up to become a Book Buddy Volunteer at the Adult Reference Desk. Mondays, November 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th from 3:45-4:30 p.m

Knit ‘N Sit Join Mrs. Tymecki and Mrs. Stack to make quilt squares which will be donated to Project Linus, a charity that provides blankets to sick children. Beginner and experienced knitters are welcome. Knit, socialize and earn community service hours too! Knit ‘N Sit will meet Tuesdays, November 4th, 18th and December 9th from 4:30-5:30p.m.

Our chess club will meet on the following Tuesdays: October 7th and 21st and November 4th and 18th. New players welcome! Register on any night the club meets.

Page Turners: A Book and a Movie Thursday, November 6th 6 – 8:30pm Enjoy discussing Penelope with our group, then watch the movie that was inspired by the book. Be sure to pick up a copy of the book when you register. Open to grades 6th - 9th

Manga Swap Friday, November 7th 4-5p.m. We all know recycling helps rid the world of waste, so why not recycle your Manga? Come and bring any Anime/Manga you would like to trade or swap.

How to Beat the High Cost of College Tuesday, November 18th from 7:00 -8:30 p.m. Barry Fox, a college financial aid expert, will explain the college financial aid process. Find out how to get your share of the billions of dollars in grants and loans that are available for student financial aid. Learn to accurately fill out the federal and state financial aid forms. Participants will be shown step-by-step strategies for filling out the government forms, planning a student needs analysis and how to negotiate with college financial aid offices. Also discussed will be divorced and separated parental situations, independent students and the best free web sites for scholarship search. Registration is not required and all are welcome to attend. Manga Club Friday, November 21st 3:30 – 5p.m. No registration necessary. New members welcome!

COMING IN DECEMBER… Glam Nails Tuesday, December 30th 7 – 8:30pm Make your nails look fabulous with help from a licensed nail technician. Learn how to manicure, decorate and take care of your nails. Every participant goes home with their own nail care kit. A $5 materials fee will be collected at registration.

Twilight Party Thursday, December 11 at 6:30p.m. Attention all fans of the Twilight Saga! Go to see movie Twilight (in theaters November 21) or read the book, and come to share your opinion about "the world's most popular vampire novelist", Stephenie Meyer. We'll raffle a Twilight Soundtrack CD and Twilight book set! Refreshments will be served. The party will be held at the Merrick Library Wing.

Please register in advance for all programs at the Adult Reference Desk. Programs are open to those in grades 6-12.If you have any questions please speak to Mrs. Tymecki.

TEEN SUMMER READING CLUB

Don’t forget to sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Club! The first 30 teens get a prize! Review books you've read and submit them weekly to be entered in a raffle! You have to read for school - why not win prizes for it???

CARTOONING WORKSHOP
Thursday, July 10th 6-7:30p.m.
Learn how to draw you favorite cartoon characters with the talented Derek Mainhart. He will discuss character development and practice a variety of cartooning techniques, including facial expressions and creating complex forms from simple shapes. All materials will be provided for this workshop.

TEEN ADVISORY GROUP

New members welcome! We need YOU to share your thoughts and opinions about the North Bellmore Library. Give us your feedback about our collection of books, movies and music. Guitar Hero Tournament
Tuesday, July 22nd 7-9p.m.
Come to the Library to show your rock star skills. The tournament is free and open to everyone in grades 5-12. Registration is required, and prizes will be awarded. You may bring your own guitar for PlayStation 2. We will have games for those eliminated. Of course we will provide snacks for all participants.

BEACH BAG BOOK CLUB

This summer our favorite teen author, Jen Calonita, invites you and your friends to join our super exciting and fun Beach Bag Book Club. Grab a beach bag, which is available at the Reference Desk for all BBB Club members, relax by the pool or at the beach with a book, and come for a cozy gathering at the Merrick Library Wing to discuss exciting summer reads with famous authors. Enjoy a snack, receive prizes, and big surprises guaranteed! Our July book will be, Secrets of my Hollywood life : Family Affairs, by Jen Calonita, followed by our August book, Spells and Sleeping Bags by Sarah Mlynowski. Open to teens from Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick and North Merrick.

Join us to make ice cream the old fashioned way. We will enjoy sundaes with all the toppings, and learn about the history of ice cream. Recipes will be given out.

DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION

Dance your heart out…Come experience DDR (on the big screen!), the dance phenomenon for teens! Enjoy Refreshments! For children ages 10 and up.Please register in advance.

SUMMER READING CLUB FINALE PARTY!!!

Come and celebrate the finale of the Summer Reading Club with North Bellmore, Bellmore, Merrick, and North Merrick teens at the Merrick Library. We will have guitar hero, karaoke and DDR! Pizza and Italian ices will be served! Raffles and prizes! End your summer with a bang!
