NOVEMBER PROGRAMS

LIT Movie Event
Libraries Ignite Teens invites current 6th-12th graders to kick off the weekend in a fun way with an after-hours space just for teens. Hosted monthly on a rotating basis by the N. Bellmore, Bellmore, Merrick, and N. Merrick Libraries, LIT will feature different activities, events, as well as spaces to hang out, munch on snacks, and get together with friends. This month we invite you to the Bellmore Playhouse at 525 Bedford Avenue in Bellmore on Friday, November 18th at 4pm for a viewing of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Enjoy free popcorn and soda. Space is limited. Please register in advance online at www.northbellmorelibrary.org.

Teen Yoga
Tuesdays, November 1st, 8th and 15th 4-5pm
Yoga is a health-based system of exercise that explores and integrates the mind, body, and breath. Teens will have fun learning how to move gracefully, breathe smoothly and deeply, sustain their focus and concentration, develop strength, flexibility, balance, mental clarity and emotional stability. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring your yoga mat to class. 

Chess Club
Children (3rd-6th Grade) 7:-7:55pm
YA & Adults (7th-Adult) 8:-8:55pm
Our chess club will meet on Tuesdays, November 1st, 15th and 29th and December 13th and 27th. New players welcome! All skill levels. Sign up any night the club meets.

Craft Buddies
Mondays, November 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th 3:30-4:15pm
Volunteer to help young children create fun fall craft projects!  Open to grades 5 and up.

No Sew Hats for Charity
Tuesday, November 8th 7-8pm
Join Mrs. Kathy to knot, cut and create fleece hats for children in need. No sewing involved.

Blankets for Charity
Monday, November 28th 7-8pm
Have fun while earning community service making blankets for those in need! No sewing involved. Join Mrs. Kathy to measure, cut, and knot fleece material to make cuddly blankets. All participants will receive a community service certificate.

All of the above programs are open to grades 5 and up. Community service will be awarded to all participants. Please register in advance online or at the Adult Reference Desk.

Test your sleuthing skills and jump into the action where you will decide Whodunit!  Please register in advance at www.nmerricklibrary.org.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAMS
Bookend Decorating
Monday, October 17th 3:30-4:30pm
Use your crafty skills to beautify the YA Department. We will decorate our boring old bookends using paint, old magazines and glitter! 

Bookmarks for the Homebound
Monday, October 24th 3:30-4:30pm
Join us to make beautiful and unique bookmarks for our homebound patrons. It will brighten their day to receive a fancy new bookmark that is crafted from the heart.

Pumpkin Loaf to Donate
Wednesday, October 26th 7-8pm
Join Mrs. Kathy to make delicious pumpkin loaf from scratch to donate to those in need. We will measure and mix the ingredients to make the loaves. Mrs. Kathy will bake the loaves and bring them to a local shelter. Community service certificates will be given to all participants.

Welcome Back Students!

We are here to help with any school projects or research papers. Visit us at our home page www.northbellmorelibrary.org for access to many databases with valuable information and support for your schoolwork, available in the library and from home. Students who have not yet read the required summer reading book, can still come in to find the books in the YA section. If the book is not on the shelf, a Librarian can request that a copy be brought into the library.

SAT Prep Class
This is a six-week math and verbal course to help high school sophomores and juniors prepare for the new Scholastic Aptitude Test. Classes will be held: Thursdays, September 15th, 29th October 6th, 13th & 20th and November 5th from 6:45-8:45pm. An $80 check, payable to Melissa Bielawski, is required at registration. Students must purchase McGraw-Hill’s SAT I Book, 2017 Edition for class. Please sign up in advance at the Adult Reference Desk. Space is limited!

Birthday Mail
Monday, September 19th 3:30-4:30pm
Over a million children experience homelessness every year. Many kids’ birthdays fall while they are in a shelter, making it hard to celebrate. In collaboration with DoSomething.org we will make and mail birthday cards to help ensure everyone gets to celebrate on their special day! All materials provided and community service certificates will be awarded.

Cookies for Charity
Tuesday, September 20th 7-8pm
Join us in baking for a good cause. We will learn to make chocolate chip cookies from scratch, and Mrs. Kathy will bake them and bring them to a local shelter. Community service certificates will be awarded.

Teen Summer Reading Club 2016
SRC Kick-Off Party on Tuesday, July 5th 4:30pm
Join us to kick-off the summer right at our SRC pizza party on July 5th at 4:30pm!  Sign up for the teen summer reading club while eating pizza, playing bingo and other fun games, making crafts, and entering raffles to win more prizes!  All students entering 6th through 12th grade in September can join NBL’s summer reading club from July 5th to August 12th.As a member you will read books, write reviews of the books you have read, and submit them for a chance to win the weekly gift card raffle. Everyone that signs up gets a prize!

Snacks will be served This program is part of LIT, an after-hours space just for teens hosted on a rotating basis by the Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick & North Merrick libraries on the first Friday of each month. SUMMER READING CLUB FINALE PARTY

Join us to celebrate the finale of the Summer Reading Club! If you submitted at least one book review this summer you will get an exclusive invitation to the SRC Finale Party! End your summer with a bang!

Libraries Ignite Teens
We invite current 6th-12th graders
to kick-off the weekend right, with an after-hours space just for teens. This month we’re heading to North Merrick Library for a LIT-Fest! Hang out with Aimee Friedman, author of Two Summers and our host, YA author extraordinaire, jen Calonita, on Friday, June 3rd for games, crafts, activities, and snacks. Babysitting Workshop
Monday, June 20th 6:30-8:30pm
Do you plan on babysitting this summer? Join registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso for a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Participants are asked to bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded to all participants.

Tie-Dye Apron for Dad
Thursday, June 9th 7-8pm
Can’t think of anything good to get for dear old dad for Father’s Day? Join Mrs. Kathy to create a unique tie-dye apron using Sharpie markers. All materials provided. Grades 5+

Don’t know what to do with your old books? Looking for something new to read? Bring up to 5 of your gently used books to swap with other teens! Each book you bring earns a ticket for one swap. Snacks will be served!
