FEBRUARY PROGRAMS

BOOK BUDDIES
Tuesdays, February 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th from 3:30-4:15pm
Teens and children become “buddies” by sharing books and a positive library experience. Children get a chance to practice their reading skills and/or be read to while teens gain volunteer experience, and a chance to make a difference in a child’s life.  Please sign up in advance online or at the Adult Reference desk.

CHESS CLUB
Children (3rd-6th Grade) 7:-7:55pm
YA & Adults (7th-Adult) 8:-8:55pm
Have you always wanted to learn how to play chess?  Now is your chance!  Join instructor Joel Salman on Tuesdays, February 4th and 18th  and March 4th & 18th to learn the basics while our more seasoned players will learn new chess strategies and challenge new opponents. We have chess players of all skill levels. Whether you're an expert at the Queen's Gambit or you're just graduating from checkers, there is a spot for you in the Chess Club. New players welcome! No registration required.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP with MATT BLACKSTONE
Tuesdays, February 25th, March 4th & 11th, 7-8pm
Do you like to write? Do you want to improve your skills in this area? Local author, Matt Blackstone, will teach you the techniques to write like a pro! He will also discuss his new book, SORRY YOU’RE LOST. There will be a reading from his book, a book raffle and signing. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on the night of the event. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity!  Sign up in advance, space is limited!

DR. SEUSS’ BIRTHDAY PARTY
Sunday, March 2nd, 2pm
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” We hope you choose to volunteer to help at our birthday bash for the one and only- Dr. Seuss! We’ll host children ages 3 and up and read stories, play games, do crafts,  and more! Please register in advance!

SAT PREP COURSE
Learn tricks and techniques for taking the SATs.
Enhance your math and verbal skills while learning test taking strategies that can help you get a higher score. This 6 week course will be held from 6:45-8:45pm on the following Thursday evenings: March 6th, 13th, 20th and April 3rd, 17th and May 1stAn $80 check, payable to Melissa Bielawski, is required at registration. Students must purchase McGraw-Hill’s SAT I Book, 2014 edition for class.  We have limited copies for sale at the Reference Desk for $5.  Please sign up in advance at the Adult

Monday, January 6th, 4:30pm
Join us in baking for a good cause.  We will learn to make homemade chocolate chip cookies from scratch, and Mrs. Kathy will bake half of them and bring them to the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen in Hempstead.  We will bring the other half home to enjoy with family and friends.

Teen Zumba
Fridays, January 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st and February 7th &14th, 4-5pm
Join the party!  Zumba is a fusion of Latin and international music and dance that creates a dynamic, exciting, effective, cardio workout.  These fun, easy routines feature interval aerobic training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body as you dance.

Mrs. Kathy will demonstrate how to make a body or foot scrub using different scented essential oils.  Participants will then pick a scent and make their own scrub in a decorated jar!  Great as a gift or to keep for yourself!   Register in advance - Space is limited!

Computer Animation

Learn how to use your computer to create web-based computer animation.  Create and edit animated GIFs, stick figures and much more.  Completion of Introduction to the Computer or have equivalent knowledge.  Sign up in advance!
