FEBRUARY PROGRAMS

Community Service Club
Wednesdays, February 20th and 27th
3:30-4:30pm

Join our club and start giving back! We will discuss possible projects and programs that will give back to our community. Our first project will be hosting a Dr. Seuss party for children in grades k-5. Have fun & earn community service credit too! Sign-up in advance online or at the Adult Reference Desk.

Candy Making
Monday, February 11th 5-6pm

Join Mrs. Kathy to learn how to make Valentine’s Day chocolates. We will decorate them for our Valentine or for ourselves!

Babysitting Workshop
Tuesday, February 12th, 5-7pm

Teens are invited to learn the basics of  caring for infants and small children along with first aid techniques. Registered nurses Joanne Tanck and Georgette Basso will present a two-hour basic first aid course and an introduction to babysitting skills. Please bring a doll or stuffed animal for demonstration. Certificates will be awarded.

Bookend Decorating
Wednesday, February 13th, 4-5pm

Use your crafty skills to beautify the Young Adult Department. We will decorate our boring old
bookends with paint and collages to spruce up the YA section. Community service will be Awarded. Sign-up in advance online or at the Adult Reference Desk.

Book Buddies
Mondays, February 25th & March 4th, 11th & 18th, 3:30-4:15pm

Teens and children become “buddies” by sharing books and a positive library experience. Children get a chance to practice their reading skills and/or be read to while teens gain Volunteer experience, and a chance to make a difference in a child’s life.  Please sign up in advance online or at the Adult Reference desk.

Teen Movie: Perks of Being A Wallflower
Monday, February 25th 6pm

Join us for this funny and touching coming-of-age story based on the beloved best-selling novel by Stephen Chbosky. The Perks of Being A Wallflower is a modern classic that captures the dizzying highs and crushing lows of growing up. Rated PG-13

SAT Prep Class

Learn tricks and techniques for taking the SATs. Enhance your math and verbal skills while learning test taking strategies that can help you get a higher score. This 6 week course will be held from 6:45-8:45pm on the following Thursday evenings: March 7th, 14th, 21st and April 4th, 18th & 25th. An $80 check, payable to Melissa Bielawski, is required at registration. Students must purchase McGraw-Hill’s SAT I Book, 2013 Edition for class.  We have limited copies for sale at the Reference Desk for $5.  Please sign up in advance at the Adult Reference Desk.

TEEN MOVIE: PITCH PERFECT
Wednesday, January 23rd, 6-8pm
Grab your friends and join us for a viewing of Pitch Perfect. Beca, a freshman at Barden University, is cajoled into joining The Bellas, her school's all-girls singing group. Injecting some much needed energy into their repertoire, The Bellas take on their male rivals in a campus competition.  Rated PG-13.

DOG BEDS FOR CHARITY
Thursday, January 31st, 7-8pm
Join us for a good doggie cause. Mrs. Kathy is going to help us create soft and cozy dog beds to donate to a local animal shelter. Community service will be awarded. Please sign-up in advance - space is limited!

Chess Tournament
Sunday, December 16th 1-5pm
JUNIOR DIVISION: Grades 3-6
SENIOR DIVISION: Grade 7 -ADULT
Join Chess Master Joel Salman as he conducts this lively tournament for chess enthusiasts. Five rounds of timed matches are planned for the Junior Division (grades 3-6) and four for the Senior Division (grade 7-adult). Trophies will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners in each division, and prizes will be given to those players who complete the tournament.

CUPCAKE DECORATING
Tuesday, December 18th 7-8pm
Join us to decorate holiday cupcakes using frosting, cookies, and candies. All food coloring for frosting is Organic with no artificial colors or flavors. Use your creativity to decorate a delicious treat for yourself or a friend!  Sign-up in advance!

COOKIES for CHARITY

Join us in baking for a good cause. We will learn to make homemade chocolate chip cookies from scratch, and Miss Kathy will bake half of them and bring them to the Mary Brennan INN soup kitchen in Hempstead. We will bring the other half home to enjoy with family & friends.

WINTER WHITE COTILLION (RESCHEDULED)
Wednesday, November 14th 4:30-6:30pm at the Merrick Library
Join us to celebrate the release of the 2nd book in Jen Calonita’s Belle’s series! Step into Izzie and Mira's heels and experience what it would be like to train for cotillion first-hand. We are teaming up with the Merrick, N. Merrick and Bellmore Libraries to host this incredibly fun Winter White event that is much more than just a regular book signing! Those who sign up can learn the waltz with a dance instructor and proper table manners with an etiquette expert. Show your love for Team Izzie or Team Mira by dressing as your favorite character from Belles.
